🌊 Surfen in Medewi – Balis entspannter Surfspot-Geheimtipp

🌊 Surfing in Medewi – Bali's relaxed surf spot insider tip

If you're looking for a Bali surf spot that won't overwhelm you with crowds, but instead offers an endlessly rolling left-hand wave, then surfing in Medewi is exactly what you need. A small place that feels like a relic from the days when Bali was more jungle than digital nomads—and that's precisely why it's so special.

🏄 The wave in Medewi – Long, Left & Lovely

The main spot in Medewi is a long left-hand point break that drops directly into the sea over large rocks. The wave rolls gently but endlessly—perfect for longboarders or relaxed shortboard sessions.

I'm a goofy rider—this wave is perfect for me. And the best part: There aren't 30 pro surfers sharing the best position here. The atmosphere in the water—at least in my experience—is super relaxed. You catch your wave, you don't get harassed. Just surf, enjoy, and paddle back out.

🏝️ Medewi – A Bali Secret with real character

Many say Medewi is “Bali like it was 20 years ago” – and I think that sums it up pretty well.

Instead of beach clubs, there are rice terraces, simple warungs, and children waving at you from the side of the road. The journey is bumpy , especially on a scooter: lots of trucks, potholes, and a lot of concentration required – but always those incredible views of rice fields and the sea.

And when you sit on the pebble beach in the evening, the sunset glowing and only the waves lapping – then you know why you made this journey.

📅 Best time to surf in Medewi

The best time to visit Medewi is from May to October . During the dry season, southerly swells roll in reliably, the wind is right, and conditions are surfable almost every day.

April and November can also still work out great – less swell, but often fewer people too.

🏡 My accommodation tip: Kelapa Surfvilla

I stayed at the Kelapa Surf Villa – and would come back anytime. The rooms are simple but comfortable, there's a pool, a bit of a tropical garden vibe, and above all: super friendly hosts. The location is fantastic – you can reach the spot in just a few minutes on foot.

☕ Working in Medewi? Holy Tree Café!

If you—like me—want to spend a few hours on your laptop, the Holy Tree Café, right on the beach, is your spot. It may not be a true coworking space, but:

  • Good prices

  • Quiet atmosphere

  • Decent Wi-Fi

  • And yes: cold coffee & sea view

A little tip: If you need AC, get there early and secure a spot inside—otherwise, the Balinese humidity will quickly make you sweat. 😅

🌱 Oceanmata in Medewi – preserving the ocean together

What many people don’t know: Oceanmata also has a location in Medewi.

Here, we regularly collect ocean plastic – often right on the beaches where we surf. If you'd like to lend a hand or just drop by, you're very welcome!

Surfing is freedom. But true freedom begins where the ocean is free of plastic.

✨ Conclusion: Medewi – Slow surf, real vibes & empty lineups

Surfing in Medewi isn't loud, wild, or showy – it's honest, gentle, and perfect for anyone who just wants to get on the board and seek peace and quiet.

You get waves. You get space. And you get a place that reminds you why you love surfing in the first place.

Come by – to surf. Or to collect plastic. Or simply to take a short breather.
